  • 04-Jul-2012 BioPower Systems receives new funding of $5.6 million from the Australian Government

    The Federal Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson AM MP, announced a $5.6 million grant for BioPower Systems’ $15 million bioWAVE Pilot Demonstration Project off the coast of Victoria.  These funds add to the $5 million recently awarded to the project by the Victorian Government, confirming all funds required to complete the project are now in place.  BioPower Systems, and several project partners, are also contributing funds, equipment, or services, in support of the $15 million project.

    The 250kW bioWAVE pilot is scheduled for deployment in late 2013, with a planned operating and testing period of 21 months.  The pilot will be connected to the national electricity grid, and is expected to supply enough power for up to 250 homes.  Planning, site development, permitting, and engineering design are all underway, and construction of the bioWAVE unit is expected to commence within months.

    BioPower Systems has been granted patents related to the bioWAVE ocean wave energy system and the bioSTREAM tidal current energy system.  Patents have recently been granted or accepted in several countries including Australia, South Africa, USA, New Zealand, and Mexico.

  • 10-Jan-2011 BioPower Systems Opens New Test Centre

    The company has recently relocated its headquarters to a combined office and industrial facility where it has established a Test Centre for O-DriveTM power conversion equipment. The Test Centre features a high-capacity grid connection for testing of full-scale equipment. Two 250kW O-DriveTM units and a bioSTREAMTM fin-actuation system have been assembled at the Test Centre and are currently being operated under simulated ocean conditions.

  • 04-Jan-2011 International Exhibitions Showcase bioWAVETM

    Next week the company will wrap up a six-month exhibition at the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York. The exhibition has featured the bioWAVETM technology as an example of advanced modern design using biomimicry, or nature-inspired design. The bioWAVETM design has also recently featured in Unlimited: Designing for the Asia Pacific, a new international initiative by the Queensland Government. Adding to this, BioPower Systems is currently on show at the Monterey Bay Aquarium as part of the ‘Whales to Windmills’: Inspiration From The Sea program and at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney as part of Ecologic: Creating a Sustainable Future.
